P.141] [They purchaseda lot of land in Bern Twp. , Berks Co. probably from brother-in-law CASPER WISTAR & wife CATHERINE, of Philadelphia. Their original log home still stands and is incorporated into a much grander stone home in Centre Twp., Berks Co.] [Beside farming the land in Bern Twp (now Centre Twp.) they also owned one of the first lots laid out in the city of READING upon which they built a half-timber style building in which was run an Inn. This was sold in the 19th century to finance the building of a knitting mill by a grandson, Jared Epler]

1745 “Tulpehocken Church received its Rose Deed conveying 100 ac of land for the consideration of forty pounds and stipulating that a Red Rose be paid annually to Caspar Wistar and his heirs in the month of June. This gave to the congregation the land upon which it had already been built, and bequeathed to it, the beautiful “Feast of Roses” occasion which is held annually the second Sunday in June. Caspar Wistar’s sister Barbara belonged to the congregation and may have contributed to the transaction.” [Moser Wierich Tulp Ch (2)]

To my 4 daus, viz, Margaret, Susanna, Maria Barbara and Anna Barbara, 5 shillings each, they having rec'd. their portions. Remainder to wife Anna Barbara, with full power to dispose of same by will or otherwise. Exrs: wife and son Adam. Letters to Adam, the widow being decd. Wit: Evan REES, Peter ALSTATT, James WHITEHEAD, Jr.

27 Nov 1773 Johannes M. Valentine EPLER witness to will of Philip MACHAMER of Bern: Vol 2- 147. Wife Elizabeth, to carry on the farming business until son Nicholas is 21, when his is to have a deed for it for £500. After provision for wife, remainder of estate is equally divided among other children, viz, Mary wife of Bastian BARLET, Philip, George and Margaret. Philip and George to be put to trades at 16.
