Benjamin PRITCHARD (1684-1739) m. Sarah E CULPEPPPER (1686-1723)
s/o Thomas PRITCHARD (1649-1698) and Barbara ____ (1654-1699)
d/o john Harlow CULPEPER (1664-1695) and Sarah MAYO (1670-1735)
p/o Mary Sarah PRITCHARD (1707-1791)

Nov 1683 Father Thomas PRITCHARD and family immigrated to Philadelphia from Wales [The Prichard Family, History and Genealogy of the Descendants of James and Elizabeth Hughes Prichard of New Castle, Kentucky (1915), by Martha Coleman Johnson: [Page 217] Elias White: "Barbara Prichard died at Philadelphia in 1699. Her will is on record there. She left property to her children, two of whom, Mathew and Benjamin, lived in Philadelphia and obtained a certificate from the Philadelphia Monthly meeting of Friends to Little River, N. C. In the records of Little River, N. C., it is stated that at a meeting held the fifth day of the fourth month, 1701, at the house of Henry White, 'things being debated' concerning the certificates of Mathew and Benjamin Prechate [sic], they were accepted at the meeting. This certificate [Page 218] was given by the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting, seventh month, eighteenth, 1700. The records of Carolina meetings show that Benjamin died seventh month, twenty-first, 1739, and that Mathew died tenth month, twenty-sixth, 1726, in the fiftieth year of his age, being a public minister for twenty-six years." Mr. White is a descendant of Benjamin. He states that there was a Thomas Prichard in the neighborhood of Philadelphia and New Jersey in 1690. Barbara Prichard and her family appear to have been among the earliest Quaker emigrants of the Prichards in Eastern Pennsylvania. Thomas Prichard also died in Philadelphia, about 18 months before Barbara died. His 1698 will, also on record there, lists the same six surviving children as those named in Barbara’s will. Note also this from Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, Vol. I (1936), by William Wade Hinshaw, Pasquotank (Symons Creek) Monthly Meeting, Page 162: “1701, 4, 1. Mathew (Prechet) & w & fam, & brother, Benjamin, prcf [produced certificate from] Philadelphia, signed 1700,9,18.”

25 Nov 1684 Benjamin PRITCHARD born at Philadelphia, Delaware, Pennsylvania [He and his older brother, Mathew Pritchard (Prechet) and wife, and family, presented certificates from Philadelphia (signed 18d 9m 1700) to the Pasquotank Monthly Meeting, in North Carolina.

1686 Sarah E CULPEPPPER born at Pasquotank, North Carolina [he unnamed "orphans of Jno. Culpeper" were noted in surviving estate records (The Colonial Records of North Carolina, Second Series, Vol. III: North Carolina Higher Court Records, 1697-1701, Raleigh, NC: North Carolina Division of Archives and History, Historical Publications Section, 1971, p. 5) but only one daughter‚ Sarah Culpeper‚ has ever been identified because she was listed as a step-daughter in the estate papers of Sarah (Mayo) Culpeper’s husband‚ Patrick Henley. There is no record of a marriage between an Annie Culpeper and S. P. Sumner.
